Living In the Presence of God

“The Most Holy Trinity has crowned Our Mother. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, will ask us to render an account of every idle word. That is another reason for asking Holy Mary to teach us always to speak in the presence of the Lord.” – St. Josemaria Escriva, Furrow #926

It is surely difficult to understand the theological depth of the Holy Trinity, but perhaps we can turn to Our Blessed Mother for guidance. She has a different relationship with each person of the Trinity: the daughter of God the Father, the Mother of God the Son, and the Spouse of God the Holy Spirit.

Because she knew this so well in her heart, she truly lived a deep presence of God at all times. She contemplated life’s events in relation to the Father’s divine plan. She loved others with the same love as her Son. She was faithful to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit no matter how small or insignificant.

How well do we strive to live in the presence of God throughout the day? Discuss your activities with him, tell him what you need help with, let not an hour go by without thinking of Our Lord.

For many of us, this idea of “living in the presence of God” is an uphill battle, but our busy lives and countless distractions can be overcome with a little tactfulness. Many great souls have used helpful “reminders” for living in God’s presence – a small crucifix on our desk, a picture of Our Lady above the kitchen sink… Employ the means necessary to stay close to God throughout the day, and we will truly be inching our way to heaven.
